Dr. Dave Bever

Dr. Dave Bever aka “Big Daddy” is the Director of LawFit / FireFit, LLC   (www.lawfit.org) in Fairfax, Virginia. The mission of the Center is to provide health and fitness information and training for public safety personnel to include: Police Officers, Sheriff’s Deputies, Corrections Officers, Firefighters, Paramedics, and Emergency Medical Technicians.  In June of 2015 Dr. Bever retired from George Mason University after 40 years of service as a professor in the College of Education and Human Development teaching courses involving: Safety, Emergency Care, and the Testing and Measurement of Physical Fitness.

While completing his Ph.D. at Purdue University and working as an EMT for the Tippecanoe County Emergency Ambulance Service in Lafayette, Indiana, Dr. Bever was stunned by the lack of fitness and poor health of many of his brother and sister police officers and firefighters. This led him to develop the FireFit Program for firefighters in 1983 and the LawFit Program for law enforcement officers in 1989. These programs emphasize the importance of lifetime fitness and nutrition for all public safety professionals. LawFit and FireFit testing protocols have been found to be excellent predictors of one’s fitness for duty.
